About aDNA.info

aDNA.info was established by Andrea Torgerson, a PhD candidate at the University of Minnesota.  Andrea's research examines variables that influence the preservation and successful recovery of DNA from challenging archaeological and forensic contexts.

aDNA.info will be the eventual home of the DNA Preservation and Recovery Database, the product of Andrea's doctoral research, which will synthesize published and unpublished data on both successful and unsuccesful attempts at ancient DNA recovery.

aDNA.info is dedicated to exploring the limits of aDNA recovery by:
  1. Identifying the various factors that may influence the preservation and recovery of ancient DNA.
  2. Extracting information regarding preservation factors and their impact on DNA recovery from published literature and personal research.
  3. Compiling preservation and recovery data into a searchable online database that will be useful to all aDNA researchers.
  4. Devising new methods for recovery of aDNA from “challenging” depositional contexts.
  5. Reassessing the interpretation of aDNA, historical genomic, and phenotypic data to keep apace with the latest discoveries of the greater biological community.
